Tammy Jones..1982 Peterborough Country Music Festival
~ The Programme write-up, the critics.
Tammy, 1982, Peterborough CM Festival
Conversions, by former pop stars, to the country field normally leave me cold. Many try the transition only to find that the music and the audiences demand a little more in the way of sincerity than they are able to give. Peterborough itself has not been entirely immune from this phenomenon in the past.

Which meant that I didn't react with the alacrity that was demanded by a press release earlier in the year, informing that Tammy Jones - former hitmaker with a No. 2 "Let Me Try Again" - was to come over.

What did provide me with a change of heart was the Welsh lady's outstanding effort on the new "Best Of British" show at Wembley - which left the fans screaming for more and the artist not a little emotional at the reception she had engendered.

Another revelation, that promotes the Jones cause, is that she had turned down some highly lucrative work in recent times to concentrate her career solely in country venues. But more importantly comes the news that she has had a headlining session at the International Fan Clubs Organisation (IFCO) annual get-together in Nashville this year-an event recorded by an ITV team for the new Channel 4 TV when it gets under way later.

Tammy is not worried about her career change in direction. In Gt. Yarmouth last year she opened her season singing a mixture of pop and country, by the end of the show's run all the pop content had disappeared and her fans were revelling in the new look act.
Peterborough is poised on Monday to pass judgement - I have a feeling the verdict could well result in a huge vote of confidence.

(And it did, Tammy was back a year later)

More of Tammy's Country Music events in New Zealand are here.
Tammy has performed at CM clubs, RSAs, Charity Concerts, public and private shows all over New Zealand with much acclaim. As can be seen, she's no newcomer to Country Music. Twice a guest on Jim Sutton's Sunday talk-back, as recent as Nov 17th 02, her NZ fan club here is clearly growing.
